Happy Australia Day! {Sydney Photographer}

Happy Australia Day! I ‘quickly’ snapped this photo the other weekend down by the Hawkesbury River. How Aussie is it – Teenage boys, with their Calvin Klein & Bonds undies (& 6-packs!) showing out the top of their boardies, jumping into the river, without a care in the world. I love our country!

1 year ago……..

…. I looked like this:

Then the next day, I looked like this:

Yup, thats right, our little Tom was born a year ago tomorrow. I look at him now, and wonder how he lived and grew in my belly for those 39 weeks (how did he fit!). Sooooo much has happened in the space of a year, not only has he grown so much, he’s also learnt so much – from having no choice but to suck a bottle to make the milk come thru, to now sitting down infront of a plate of food, and feeding himself (finger food only – not ready yet to trust the little bugger with a spoon or fork!) From laying flat on his back for so many months, to then sitting up at 5 months, to standing at 10, walking at 11 months, and now running at 12 months. Learning how to clap hands, waive bye bye and hold his drink-bottle. He says a bunch of words, but they don’t mean anything – he says mum to just about everybody and everything, but he knows who ‘mum’ is (along with dad, grandma, pop, Pepa, Chewy, etc). He’s a little miracle, and its amazing watching him grow & learn everyday.

Obviously I have millions of photos of him, but i’d like to share just a few from the last few weeks. Here he is helping dad in the garden:

In the paddle pool, showing 3 of the expressions we get on a daily basis:

Playing inside – I think we called him the right name……: Side note – Pepa and Chewy love the Thomas tent just as much as Tom does – all 3 of them take turns playing (or sleeping if you’re one of the dogs) inside it. Thanks again, Ali-cat, all 3 of my kids love it! :)

And 2 photos from last weekend at Del Rio – He was an absolute trouper this day, sleeping for all of about an hour in the pram, and eating all the cheese & bacon balls….. (well not all of them, some ended up on his singlet….):

The little walking Walker. Or running Walker.

Happy 1st birthday, bubba, we love you lots and lots!  Looking forward to getting some awesome photos of you eating cake on the weekend!  xxxx

I met a Star…. THE Jasmine* {Sydney Wedding Photographer}

So…. im not really into ‘stars’. Im actually really terrible, I not sure if its that I don’t recognise  the ‘star’, or  if  Im just one of those people who doesn’t get ‘star-struck’.   Ive stood next to a breakfast radio DJ while picking up my pizza, and didn’t bat an eye. I had a drink at our local pup, while a tennis star and his ‘home & away’ wife played pool behind me, and I didn’t go all weak at the knees, I shot a wedding last year, where an Underbelly star was the brides cousin, and I didn’t even realise until my husband saw me editing the photos (and thats bad, because, like the rest of Australia, minus Victoria, I LOVED the first underbelly, I SHOULD have recognised him from a mile away!). I feel sorry for the poor sports personalities out there, who are doing what they love for a living, and somehow its turned them into celebrities (except for Shane Warne) (Oh, and I am thankful for all the Ben Cousins coverage with no top on, he he :) ).  My husband reckons I’d be the best person to shoot a celebrity wedding, as I wouldn’t get all star-struck. I read mums old Woman’s Days  in about 2 minutes, because im just not really interested. I believe their life is their own.

Anyway, in saying all of that, last Monday, I met a star. The one and only, Jasmine Star, an awesome photographer based in the US.  Ive followed j*’s website for a year or so now, and actually surprised myself when I booked to go to her workshop as soon as I found out about it. I wondered, did I really want to go to meet j* herself, or did I want to go to learn from the master. Ah, what the hell, a little from column A and a little from column B! I must admit, I was a bit star-struck. She looked EXACTLY like she looks on her blog, a skinny mini, with perfect teeth, and she really does LOVE her gorgeous hubby, JD (and Polo the dog). I had a great day, learnt a bunch, and got to catch up with some Facebook Buddies (new & old). I didn’t take too many photos of the gorgeous models, as I spent more time watching Jasmine shoot, and listening to the way she directed the bride & groom, etc – but here are a few images I managed to shoot:

Model: Kristie Jane, Flowers: Daisy Chain Florist, Dresses: Catherine Coulbriale, Hair & Make-up: Elle Vierboom

Our real life couple (married 6 or so months) – Lacey & Evan:

Till next time! L. xx

Sydney Beach Babes! {Family portraits}

Yes, im talking about my 2 little beach babes! :) When the weather co-operates, we’ve been out enjoying this gorgeous Sydney Summer, and I finally took my camera with me to a trip to the beach last week! Here are my gorgeous beach babes:

I’d love to say this photo was taken somewhere exotic like Fiji, but no, just good old Clontarf Beach (near Manly)

Enjoy! :)

Summer fun in the yard! {Family Portraits, Sydney}

Meet Melinda & her gorgeous family…… husband Michael, girls Alicia & Charlotte, and little Liam. This family was supposed to be my last shoot for 2009…. but, due to a sick little boy (who ended up at Westmead Children’s Hospital with a nasty rash!), instead ended up being my first shoot for 2010! I know this year will be even better than 2009, when you start it with a session like this – the whole family in jeans with no shoes, just having fun around their home, with those big gorgeous smiles!

Did I mention the smiles?

Not yet from Liam…. he took a little while to warm up.

Warm!

I couldn’t work out which photo I liked better here – so I decided to share both:

Im not sure what the kids are doing in this next photo – Alicia sure is having a good time! :)

Family of 5!

Alicia:

Charlotte:

Liam:

I don’t often shoot family portraits at home – not that I don’t like it, I just find that most of my clients prefer bush / park / beach in the background. But Melinda wanted her house as a backdrop – isn’t it cute! And im not sure how you get the grass so green -> you guys aren’t on recycled water – im sure there are still water restrictions?! Whatever the case, the gardens look amazing (and the grass was nice and spongy to sit on!)

Melinda & the girls:

And the whole family, including Molly the cat!

Thank you, Melinda, for inviting me into your home to photograph your gorgeous family! Thank you also, Jo Colfer, for the referral :) lauren xx
